The San Lorenzo River flows east through the Santa Cruz Mountains on its way to the Pacific Ocean. Nearing sea level, the river cuts through a canyon. This spot is still fairly private allowing small groups to "return to paradise". There is easy access from several road-side spots where trails lead down to the water's edge. When I first started visiting California some years ago I found this place called the "Garden of Eden" listed in the Bay Guardian Nude Beaches guide. Intruigued, I made the trip to this park in the redwoods. It's a pleasant walk along a well-worn path that merges with an old rail track which you follow for a bit. You can see the river below, and after scampering down a last trail you have arrived. The main swimming hole was used by non-nude people whenever I checked it out, but I also saw some scattered nudists downriver and upriver. For this outing I chose a private spot I had found previously after a bit of scouting. The participants lived in towns nearby.
I spent most of the afternoon shooting video rather than stills, just going with the flow to see what the results would be. I had not planned any particular activities and just let people take over with their own creativity. I was pretty happy with the results but felt that maybe in future there could be something specific for people to do. In the forest hike some wore shoes and socks which resulted in me always having extra sandals available on future outings.
Look for the interesting juxtapositions of photos taken of the same moment in time from different angles. Especially one in gallery-7 where Luna jumps into the air.
