We return to a familiar area along the American River, a three-hour drive from San Francisco. We walked a little further along the trails than usual to get away from the numerous groups of hikers. We found a sandy spot and camped there for the day. The water was cold spring runoff coming off the mountains.

nomad-notes
What a change in 10 years! There used to be just a handful of other cars in the area on any given day. On this day there were hundreds lining the roadways! Many, many people were out on this April Sunday to stroll along the trails. I was worried that we would not be able to have our day as planned. In reality, taking a side trail down to the waterside will find you enough privacy, though on this day rangers and rescue people arrived right to our spot. I was sure a ranger was going to challenge our nudity, but that was not the case.
