Nomad's Notes

The first time I used the term "Bodyfest" was for a beach event, as my original conception for Naked Club was to have large beach gatherings periodically. There are many problems with using California beaches for this purpose. (1) the weather is very unpredictable and almost always either cold or on the edge of being too cold. (2) though sporadic nudity is accepted on many beaches in Northern California, having large groups of 100s of people show up can only eventually attract the attention of authorities and gawkers. Baker Beach is usable, and we did do a "Beach Party Day" (not yet posted) that turned out well, but weather, gawkers and the trek from the parking lot with all our props and toys makes it a bit of a grind to deal with. The second use of "Bodyfest" was a retreat event in 2011 (not yet posted) which had about 30 people and many of the elements of the later Bodyfest 2013 - workshops about body movement, dance, performers, etc, but it was very intimate and closed. I was coming to the realization that a large private property was needed and coincidently I was introduced to the people at Lupin Lodge, a naturist facility near San Jose - the idea of doing a "big" event was accepted and so what you see in these galleries was the first attempt at a festival that had room to expand to hundreds of participants (if they showed up) in a place with all the amenties one could possibly want. I was hoping for more people but 82 was about double the number we ever had in one day.
